Quick Entry is a small bar that opens over the app you're in, so you can ask Dvina without switching windows. What you send goes to your chat, and the answer appears right under the bar.

Open Quick Entry

Mac

Press ⌥ Space, or click the Dvina icon in the menu bar and choose Ask Dvina.

Windows

Press Alt Space, or click the Dvina icon in the system tray.

Linux

Press Alt Space, or click the Dvina icon in the system tray.

The bar opens at the top center of the screen, over the app you're in, and that app stays in front. To close it, press the shortcut again or press Esc. What you typed stays for next time.

Change the shortcut

  1. Go to Settings › General › Quick Entry shortcut.
  2. Press the button, then the new keys.

If another app already uses the shortcut, Dvina says so. Choose other keys, or open Quick Entry from the menu bar icon.

Ask about the app you're in

Quick Entry can work on the app in front of you, like the page you're reading or the sheet you have open.

  1. Open the Dvina icon's menu, in the menu bar on a Mac or the system tray on Windows and Linux.
  2. Turn on Let Dvina see your screen.

With it on, Dvina looks at the app you're in and does the work there. With it off, Dvina asks before it reads your apps or the page in your browser. Your choice is kept on this computer.

Get the answer

Type your question and send it. The answer appears in a card right under the bar.

  • Follow up: Type in the same field. A new answer takes the card's place.
  • Use the answer: Choose Copy, or Try again for another answer.
  • Read it all: Choose Open in Dvina to see it in the app.
  • Close it: Press Esc or choose the card's close button. While an answer is still being written, Esc stops it first.

To add a file, drag it onto the bar.

Answer what Dvina needs

When Dvina needs your approval or an answer, in your chat or in one of your tasks, the card appears under the bar. Answer it right there. If the bar is closed, it comes back when a task needs you.

Go on in the app

Click the Dvina logo in the bar. The main chat opens in the app at the message you sent from the bar, and anything you've typed in the bar goes along into the app's message field.

Move the bar

Drag the bar by its logo or by the empty space in its field. It opens where you left it on that screen the next time. If that spot no longer fits, like on a smaller screen, it goes back to the top center.

While Dvina uses your computer

When Dvina works in your apps, its logo in the bar glows and the bar says where, like Dvina is using your Mac. A light goes around the edge of your screen.

To pause, press ⌥ Esc on a Mac or Ctrl Alt Esc on Windows. To stop, choose Stop in the menu bar icon's menu. See Computer Use.

Use the menu bar icon

Mac

Click the Dvina icon in the menu bar to open its menu. The icon fills while Dvina works on your Mac, shows a pause sign when it's paused, and has a dot when something waits for you.

Windows

Right-click the Dvina icon in the system tray to open its menu. The icon has a badge while Dvina works on your PC, a pause sign when it's paused, and a red dot when something waits for you.

Linux

Right-click the Dvina icon in the system tray to open its menu. The icon has a badge while Dvina works on your computer, a pause sign when it's paused, and a red dot when something waits for you.

The menu shows:

  • What waits for you, like Waiting for your answer or Usage limit reached. Choose it to open Quick Entry.
  • Dvina's work on this computer, with the app and the step it's on. Choose Pause or Carry on, Stop, or Show in chat.
  • Tasks, with how many are running. Choose a task to open its chat in the app.
  • Let Dvina see your screen and Ask Dvina, which opens Quick Entry.
  • Usage, with how much of your limit you've used.
  • Open Dvina, Library and Quit Dvina.

Work with selected text

On a Mac, select text in another app, then right-click and choose Services › Ask Dvina. Quick Entry opens beside the text. Choose Proofread, Rewrite, Shorten, Make friendly, Make professional or Summarize, or ask your own question, then choose Replace to put the new text back. See Continuity.

When to use

  • You're in the middle of something and want a quick answer without leaving the app.
  • You want Dvina to work on the page or file in front of you.
  • You want to approve Dvina's next step without opening the app.

Tips

  • Keep going in the app. Started something in the bar that grew? Click the logo, and your chat opens at that message.
  • Let it see only when you want. Turn Let Dvina see your screen on or off from the menu bar icon's menu anytime.
