# See an agent on the map

> See when an agent runs, its steps and where each one asks first, where its work goes, and follow a run as it happens.

The map shows an agent's job at a glance: when it runs, what it does step by step, and what it hands back. Dvina draws it from the instruction you wrote, and redraws it as you change the instruction.

## Open the map

1. Open the agent.
2. At the top of the panel, choose **Map**. To go back to the text, choose **Instruction**.

On this device, the panel remembers which one you chose for each agent. While the map is being drawn again after a change, it says **Updating…**. If the instruction is empty, the map says **Write what it should do. Its steps appear here.** If the map couldn't be drawn, choose **Try again**.

The map only shows. To change the agent, change its instruction or its sections.

## When it runs

Under **When**, the map lists every way the agent starts:

- **Each schedule:** How often it repeats and when it runs next, or **Paused**. You set schedules under **Runs**. See [Run an agent on a schedule](/docs/use-dvina/agents/schedules).
- **The job it's for:** If the instruction says when the job comes up, like "After a meeting ends", the map shows it with what Dvina does then: **Dvina offers it** or **Runs it for you**. This follows the agent's **Proactive** choice. See [Agents and Proactive](/docs/use-dvina/agents/proactive-agents).
- **When you ask for it:** You can always use the agent in a chat.

## The steps

Under **Steps**, each step is a card with its name and the apps or tools it works with.

A step that acts also shows how it goes, from the agent's permissions:

- **Asks before changing**, **Asks before sending** or **Asks before deleting:** It asks you first.
- **Changes on its own:** It makes the change without asking. This shows when **Make changes** is set to **Allow for this agent**.
- **Hands it back to you:** It prepares the work and hands it back instead of doing it.

To change these, go to **Permissions** under **Instruction**. See [Agent permissions](/docs/use-dvina/agents/permissions).

### Find a step in the instruction

Choose a step. The panel switches to **Instruction** and selects the words that step comes from, so you can change them right there. A step with no words of its own in the instruction can't be chosen.

## Where it writes

Under **Result**, the map shows what the agent hands back. If you picked a document or a page under **Write into**, that's what it shows, and each run saves a new version of it. Otherwise, it shows what the instruction asks for, like a document or a message.

## Watch a run

While one of the agent's runs is working, a dot shows on **Map**. Open the map to follow it:

- A card at the top says **Running now**, with the step it's on, like **Step 2 of 5**. Choose **Open** to see the run's task.
- Each step shows where it stands: done, working or still to come.
- If the run needs you, the card says **Waiting for your approval**, and the step it waits on shows **Review**. Choose **Review** to answer it.
- If the run does more than its steps say, the map lists it under **Also doing**.

Under **Recent runs**, the map lists the agent's latest runs with how each went. A run that started on its own is marked **Scheduled** or **When its job came up**. Choose a run to open its task.

## Tips

- **Read the map after you write.** If a step is missing or out of order, the instruction may be unclear there. Choose a step nearby to jump to its words, and fix them.
- **Check the asks.** Before you schedule an agent, check which steps ask first.
