# Keep in Mind tools

> Keep words or a link, list what you kept and forget something from an MCP client or with the dvina command.

With Dvina's MCP tools or the `dvina` command, another app can keep something in mind for you, the same as choosing **Keep** in Dvina. What it keeps is yours: it shows in **Kept** in your Feed, Dvina finds it when you ask, and it can help Dvina bring it back when it matters. To learn about Keep in Mind itself, see [Keep in Mind](/docs/use-dvina/features/keep-in-mind).

## The tools

| MCP tool | Command | What it does | Asks first |
| ---------- | ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------- |
| `kept_add` | `dvina kept add` | Keeps words or a link.                                          | No         |
| `kept_ls`  | `dvina kept ls`  | Lists what you kept, newest first, or only what matches a word. | No         |
| `kept_rm`  | `dvina kept rm`  | Forgets something you kept. It moves to **Recently Deleted**.   | Yes        |

## Keep words or a link

`kept_add` keeps words, a link, or words with the link they came from. Give at least `text` or `url`.

| Input       | What it is                                                               | Limit            |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------- |
| `text`      | The words to keep.                                                       | 5,000 characters |
| `url` | The page or link the words come from, or the link to keep. http(s) only. | 2,048 characters |
| `title` | The title of where it comes from, like the page's or the document's. | 500 characters |
| `sourceApp` | The app it comes from, like the name of your MCP client. | 200 characters |

It returns the kept item's `id`, its `kind` (`text` or `link`) and its `title`.

```sh
dvina kept add "Bright & Co. includes permits and can start Nov 17." --url https://example.com/quote --title "Kitchen quote"
```

Keeping the same words from the same place again doesn't make a second item.

## List what you kept

`kept_ls` lists your kept items, newest first.

| Input    | What it is                                        |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| `query` | Only items whose words, title or link contain it. |
| `limit` | How many to return, up to 100. The default is 20. |
| `cursor` | Where the last page ended, to get the next page. |

Each item has its `id`, `kind` (`text`, `image` or `link`), `title`, `text`, `url`, `sourceType` (where it was kept, like `chat` or `mcp`), `sourceApp` and `createdAt`. When there are more, the result has a `nextCursor`; with the command, the list ends with `next: --cursor <c>`.

```sh
dvina kept ls --query permits --limit 5
```

## Forget something you kept

`kept_rm` forgets one kept item by its `id`. Like other changes, it asks you first: Dvina shows the item's title, and you approve or decline. When you approve, it moves to **Recently Deleted**, where you can restore it for 30 days.

```sh
dvina kept rm <id>
```

## What applies

- The tools work as you, on your own kept items, with what your role allows.
- What a client keeps goes through your company's data protection rules, as in the app. If a rule doesn't allow it, nothing is kept and the client gets the reason.
- Keeping a picture isn't available from these tools. Keep pictures in Dvina or from your phone's share sheet.
